The 26-year-old replaced Shubman Gill in the playing XI due to Gill’s neck injury. Although Sarfaraz was dismissed for a duck in the first innings, he rebounded strongly in the second, marking the 22nd instance of an Indian batter scoring a duck and a hundred in the same Test. He formed a crucial partnership with Virat Kohli, contributing to a hundred-plus stand. Prior to this match, Sarfaraz had recently scored a double century in the Irani Cup and has a total of 15 centuries in First-Class cricket.
