Sun Oct 20 09:58:33 UTC 2024: – North Korea has sent around 20 balloons carrying trash towards South Korea, with about 10 objects found in Cheorwon, as reported by the South Korean military.
– The balloons were launched between Saturday night and early Sunday, and the debris included household waste like paper and vinyl, posing no hazardous risk.
– Each balloon, measuring 2 to 3 meters in diameter and 3 to 4 meters long, typically contains multiple bags, so the number of fallen items may not equate to the number of balloons.
– Since late May, North Korea has reportedly launched over 5,000 trash balloons in retaliation against anti-Pyongyang leaflets disseminated by activists and defectors in South Korea.
