Sun Oct 20 11:16:18 UTC 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, featuring 99 candidates. Key figures in the list include former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis contesting from Nagpur South-West and Ashok Chavan’s daughter, Srijaya Ashok Chavan, who joined the BJP from Congress earlier this year. Other notable candidates include Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Ram Kadam, Shweta Mahale Patil, and Nitish Rane.
Analysts predict a competitive election between the ruling coalition of BJP-Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP, and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition comprising Shiv Sena (UBT), Sharad Pawar’s NCP, and Congress. Both sides express confidence in their electoral prospects.
Polling for the 288-member assembly will take place on November 20, with results expected on November 23.
