Thu Oct 17 23:52:27 UTC 2024: ## Indian-Origin Industrialist’s Daughter Detained in Uganda, Family Appeals to UN

**Kampala, Uganda** – Vasundhara Oswal, the 26-year-old daughter of Indian-origin industrialist Pankaj Oswal, has been detained in Uganda since October 1st, sparking outrage and prompting her family to file an appeal with the United Nations. According to the family, Oswal was “seized by around 20 armed men” from an alcohol plant the family operates in Uganda.

While local officials have linked Oswal’s detention to an ongoing missing person investigation, the family vehemently denies any involvement and claims her detention is a result of “corporate jealousy.” In an open letter to the Ugandan government, Oswal’s brother alleged that the detention stems from a business rival who was envious of her success.

Oswal reportedly spent over 90 hours in detention without access to basic necessities like a bath or a change of clothes. The family alleges she was also denied access to her family and lawyers.

Following her detention, the family filed an urgent appeal to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, claiming her detention was unlawful and inhumane.

The incident has sparked international attention and raised concerns about the safety and well-being of Indian nationals operating in Uganda.
