Thu Oct 17 19:17:52 UTC 2024: ## Indian Billionaire’s Daughter Illegally Detained in Uganda, UN Appeal Filed

**Kampala, Uganda** – Pankaj Oswal, the Indian-origin billionaire businessman and owner of the Oswal Global Group, has filed an urgent appeal with the United Nations, demanding the release of his daughter, Vasundhara, who he claims is being illegally detained in Uganda.

Vasundhara, 26 and an executive director at PRO Industries, a subsidiary of the Oswal Global Group, was detained on October 1st, 2023, and has been held without trial since then. Oswal alleges that his daughter is being subjected to degrading conditions, including prolonged interrogation without legal representation or access to her family.

Oswal claims the charges against his daughter stem from a former employee who stole company valuables and took a loan of $200,000, using the Oswal family as guarantors. When the Oswals refused to cover the loan, the employee allegedly retaliated by filing false accusations against Vasundhara to avoid his own financial obligations.

Despite the employee’s arrest, Vasundhara faces charges of kidnapping and attempted murder, charges which Oswal insists are baseless. He has described his daughter’s detention as a result of “corporate and political manipulation.”

Oswal has appealed directly to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for intervention and has also enlisted the help of renowned human rights lawyer Cherie Blair CBE, KC. Blair’s office has stated that Vasundhara’s treatment violates both domestic and international laws.

The Oswal family has taken to social media to highlight Vasundhara’s ordeal, detailing her experience in detention, including being held in a room filled with shoes for over 90 hours and denied access to adequate sanitation.

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) has been contacted by Oswal, who is seeking their intervention to secure his daughter’s release and ensure her safety. The family is calling for Vasundhara’s immediate release and an end to her unjust detention.
