Fri Oct 18 03:43:12 UTC 2024: ## Sri Lanka Clinches First T20I Series Win Over West Indies With Dominant Victory
**Dambulla, Sri Lanka:** Sri Lanka celebrated a triumphant end to their T20I series against the West Indies, securing a convincing nine-wicket victory in the third and final match on Thursday. The win marks Sri Lanka’s first ever T20I series win over the Caribbean side.
Kusal Mendis led the charge for Sri Lanka with an unbeaten 68, hitting five fours and three sixes. He and fellow opener Pathum Nissanka (39 runs off 22 balls) put on a quick 60 runs in just 5.2 overs, setting the tone for a dominant chase.
The West Indies, who had won the series opener, struggled to keep up with Sri Lanka’s strong batting performance. Despite a late flourish from Rovman Powell and Gudakesh Motie, they could only manage 162 runs.
Sri Lanka’s spin attack proved too much for the West Indies, with Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga each claiming two wickets.
“I thought we had enough runs on the board,” said West Indies captain Rovman Powell. “Sri Lankan spinners completely outplayed us. We knew spin was going to play a key role, and Sri Lanka were far better.”
The series win caps off a successful three months for Sri Lanka under new head coach Sanath Jayasuriya. The team has seen impressive victories against India, England, and New Zealand, marking a resurgence in their performance.
