**Bengaluru, India** – Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the third day of the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru due to a knee injury sustained on Day 2. The BCCI confirmed that the medical team is monitoring Pant’s progress, but he will not take the field today.
Pant was struck on the knee while attempting a stumping in the 37th over of New Zealand’s innings. The injury, which occurred on the same leg where Pant had surgery previously, resulted in immediate swelling.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that the decision to rest Pant was a precautionary measure, adding that the batter is still recovering from his December 2022 car crash and does not want to risk further injury.
Dhruv Jurel, the substitute wicketkeeper, will continue his duties for India on Day 3.
New Zealand currently holds a 134-run lead in the match, having reached 180/3 after India was bowled out for a record low score of 46 in their first innings.
The match will resume on Day 3, with the focus now turning to whether Pant will be able to return for the remainder of the Test.
