Fri Oct 18 04:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Wayans Family Takes Center Stage in New CBS Comedy “Poppa’s House”

**Los Angeles, CA -** Get ready for a dose of family-centric humor as CBS’s upcoming comedy “Poppa’s House” premieres on Monday, October 21st. The show features real-life father and son duo Damon Wayans Sr. and Damon Wayans Jr., reuniting on screen after their successful collaboration in “Happy Endings”.

“Poppa’s House” centers around Wayans Jr. as a struggling artist trying to make it in the film industry while supporting his family. Wayans Sr. plays his larger-than-life father, “Poppa”, a legendary radio host who, despite being divorced, can’t seem to stop parenting his adult son. The show explores the comedic clashes between Poppa’s old-fashioned ways and his son’s modern life, spiced up by the arrival of a new work colleague played by Essence Atkins.

“It really started with [Damon Sr.] wanting to do something with his son,” shared showrunner Dean Lorey. “It was always part of the concept that it be a father-son show, that they would do it together.” The series draws inspiration from the Wayans family’s real-life experiences, adding a layer of authenticity to the humor.

Wayans Jr., who has matured significantly since working alongside his father, brings a wealth of comedic experience to the project. “I’m just more assured of what I already thought I knew,” he explains. “I’ve done it with my family. I’ve worked away from my family. And so now I’m just bringing everything that I’ve learned back to my dad.”

Wayans Sr. is thrilled to see his son’s growth as a comedian. “It brings me great joy,” he says. “He’s gonna slam dunk it, and that’s a good feeling.”

The family ties extend beyond the leads, with Wayans Sr.’s daughters, granddaughters, and another son working on the show’s staff, along with Lorey’s son. “It’s not just Wayanses, it’s people contributing,” says Wayans Sr. “They’re emotionally and creatively invested in making this thing as good as it can be.”

“Poppa’s House” promises a blend of laughter and heartwarming moments, aiming to evoke a sense of family familiarity among viewers. “We want you to laugh really hard, but also feel like we’re part of your family,” says Wayans Jr.

Catch the premiere of “Poppa’s House” on CBS on Monday, October 21st at 8:30/7:30c.
