**Osaka, Japan -** Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the No. 7 seed, cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Belgian Greet Minnen in the second round of the Japan Open on Thursday. This win propels Parry into the quarterfinals where she will face Dane Clara Tauson.
The 22-year-old Parry, ranked No. 52 in the world, is making her first quarterfinal appearance on the WTA Tour since reaching the semifinals in Palermo in July. Her journey to the quarterfinals included a hard-fought victory over Russian Erika Andreeva in the first round.
This will be the first meeting between Parry and Tauson on the WTA Tour. Tauson, also 21 years old, is ranked No. 127 in the world.
Minnen, ranked No. 95, had previously defeated Canadian wildcard Bianca Andreescu in the first round.
