Fri Oct 18 11:01:09 UTC 2024: ## IPL Chairman Debunks Claims of “Uncapped Player Rule” Being Made For Dhoni

**Mumbai, India:** IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has dismissed claims that the recently introduced “uncapped player rule” in the IPL retention policy was specifically created to allow Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to retain MS Dhoni for a lower price.

The new rule allows franchises to retain Indian players who have not played international cricket in the last five years for a maximum of INR 4 crore. This has led to speculation that it was a strategic move to benefit Dhoni, who is at the twilight of his career.

“There is no exception made for MS Dhoni,” Dhumal stated in an interview with Rediff, effectively quashing the rumors. “Whether he is uncapped or capped, every franchise would want to pick Dhoni, no matter what price he is available for.”

Dhumal further explained that the rule is meant to benefit several senior players who have retired from international cricket but remain valuable assets in the IPL. He cited the examples of Piyush Chawla and Amit Mishra, who are still performing well in the league despite not being part of the Indian national team for years.

“It is for all our players,” Dhumal emphasized. “There are many senior players who are fit to play even after retiring from international cricket.”

He concluded by reiterating that the rule is designed to acknowledge the passion and fitness of players who continue to contribute significantly to the IPL despite not being part of the Indian team.
