Fri Oct 18 07:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Former Indian Official Charged in US for Alleged Plot to Assassinate Sikh Separatist

**Washington, D.C.** – A former Indian government official, **Vikas Yadav**, has been charged by US authorities for his alleged role in a foiled plot to assassinate **Gurpatwant Singh Pannun**, a Sikh separatist leader, on American soil. The plot allegedly targeted Pannun during the state visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year.

The Justice Department announced criminal charges against Yadav, 39, who previously worked in the cabinet secretariat, home to India’s foreign intelligence service, the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has added Yadav to its list of wanted fugitives.

The Indian government has denied any involvement in the alleged assassination plot. Following the US allegations, New Delhi established an inquiry committee to investigate the matter.

The US State Department has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation from India on this case. The second indictment comes within 48 hours of an Indian inquiry committee meeting with US officials from the FBI, Department of Justice, and State Department.

“We are satisfied with the cooperation. It continues to be an ongoing process,” said State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller. “We appreciate the cooperation, and we appreciate them updating us on their investigation as we update them on ours.”
