**New Delhi, October 26, 2023:** In a move to bolster the financial well-being of government employees across India, various state governments and the central government have announced significant increases to the Dearness Allowance (DA).

The Union Cabinet approved a 3% DA hike for central government employees, bringing the total DA to 53% of basic pay. This follows similar announcements from state governments.

Chhattisgarh has implemented a 4% DA increase for its employees, bringing the total DA to 50% effective from October 1st. Odisha, with a similar increase, has also approved a 4% DA hike for employees of State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), effective from January 1st, 2024. However, this increase is only applicable to PSUs meeting specific financial and governance criteria.

Himachal Pradesh, anticipating Diwali festivities, announced a 4% DA increase for state employees and pensioners, effective from January 1st, 2023. The state government also declared a timely payment of salaries and pensions in October, along with the settlement of outstanding medical bills and pension arrears.

Sikkim, in anticipation of the Durga Puja festival, also increased its employees’ DA by 4% from 46% to 50% effective from January 1st, 2024. This increase applies to both employees and pensioners, including those on contract and in work-charged establishments.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government has approved a 9% increase in the DA for its employees, pushing the total DA to 239% and offering financial relief to many government workers. This updated DA rate will come into effect from January 1st, 2024.

These recent DA increases across India are expected to provide much-needed financial support to government employees and contribute to a more positive outlook during the upcoming festive season.
