Thu Oct 17 13:51:10 UTC 2024: ## Oswal Heiress Detained in Uganda, Family Cries Foul

**Kampala, Uganda** – Vasundhara Oswal, daughter of Indian business tycoon Pankaj Oswal, has been detained in Uganda since October 1st, 2024. Her family claims she is being illegally held without charges and denied basic human rights.

Vasundhara, Executive Director of Axis Minerals and a key figure in the Oswal Global Group, was visiting a company plant in Uganda when she and several employees were detained by armed personnel claiming to be law enforcement officers.

Pankaj Oswal alleges his daughter’s detention is based on false accusations from a former employee who allegedly stole company assets and owes the family $200,000. He has filed an appeal with the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, calling the detention “illegal.”

The Oswal family asserts Vasundhara is being denied access to legal representation, communication with her family, and basic human rights. Human rights lawyer Cherie Blair, representing Vasundhara, described her situation as “traumatic.”

Pankaj Oswal has publicly appealed to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to intervene and ensure his daughter’s rights are respected. The family has also highlighted Vasundhara’s significant role in the Oswal Group’s success, particularly her leadership within PRO Industries, a subsidiary of the Oswal Global Group.

The Oswal family, known for their lavish lifestyle, recently purchased Villa Vari estate in Switzerland for $200 million, making it one of the world’s most expensive private homes.

The detention of Vasundhara Oswal has sparked international concern, with calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her arrest and immediate release.
