Thu Oct 17 15:57:02 UTC 2024: ## Young Businesswoman Detained in Uganda, Family Demands Release

**Kampala, Uganda** – Vasundhara Oswal, the daughter of prominent Indian business tycoons Pankaj and Radhika Oswal, has been detained in Uganda since October 1st, 2024. The 25-year-old executive director of Axis Minerals, a company within the Oswal Group Global, was reportedly apprehended by armed men claiming to be law enforcement officers while visiting an Extra-Neutral Alcohol (ENA) plant.

The Oswal family has vehemently denied any wrongdoing and claims Vasundhara’s detention is based on false accusations made by a former employee who stole company assets and took a $200,000 loan with the family as guarantors.

Pankaj Oswal, in an open letter to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, has expressed concern over his daughter’s denial of basic rights, legal representation, and access to her family. He alleges that the detention is politically motivated, exploiting his daughter’s high-profile position in the business world.

Vasundhara’s mother, Radhika Oswal, has issued a heart-wrenching public appeal to the Ugandan government, pleading for communication with her daughter. She expressed deep emotional distress, stating that her daughter has been stripped of her basic human rights and dignity.

Renowned human rights lawyer Cherie Blair has taken on Vasundhara’s case and described her condition as “a vulnerable young woman, far from home, suffering through a traumatic experience.”

The family’s legal team has raised concerns about the inhumane conditions Vasundhara is allegedly being subjected to, including denial of access to vegetarian food, being moved between prisons without notice, and enduring unsanitary conditions.

The incident has sparked international attention, with the Oswal family seeking immediate intervention from the United Nations. They are urging for Vasundhara’s release and a fair legal process.

Vasundhara, known for her leadership in sustainable business practices, has been instrumental in expanding the Oswal family’s business interests. Her commitment to environmental responsibility has been evident through initiatives like establishing a carbon dioxide-capturing plant and utilizing recycled water for beverage companies.

The Oswal family, known for its opulent lifestyle and expansive business ventures, is now grappling with this unexpected crisis, hoping for a swift resolution to Vasundhara’s detention.
