Wed Oct 16 19:23:34 UTC 2024: ## Young Businesswoman Detained in Uganda: Daughter of Indian Tycoon Faces Unfounded Accusations

**Kampala, Uganda** – Vasundhara Oswal, the daughter of Indian business tycoons Pankaj and Radhika Oswal, has been detained in Uganda since October 1st, 2024. The 25-year-old, who is the Executive Director of Axis Minerals and a key figure in the family’s business empire, was allegedly arrested without a warrant and formal charges by armed men claiming to be law enforcement officers.

Vasundhara’s father, Pankaj Oswal, claims her detention is based on false accusations made by a former employee who had stolen valuable assets and taken a $200,000 loan with the family as guarantors. He has publicly appealed to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, alleging that his daughter is being denied basic rights, legal representation, and access to her family.

The Oswal family has filed an urgent appeal with the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and has enlisted renowned human rights lawyer Cherie Blair to represent Vasundhara.

Concerns have been raised about the inhumane conditions Vasundhara is reportedly being subjected to, including denial of vegetarian food, being moved between prisons without notice, and enduring unsanitary conditions.

The family’s lawyer, Rita Ngabire, was also detained alongside Vasundhara during her visit to an Extra-Neutral Alcohol (ENA) plant in Uganda.

Vasundhara’s mother, Radhika Oswal, has made a heart-wrenching public appeal to the Ugandan government, pleading for communication with her daughter and emphasizing the deep emotional distress the family is enduring.

Vasundhara’s case has sparked outrage amongst the business community and human rights groups, with many calling for her immediate release and a fair trial.

The Oswal Group Global, a conglomerate with diversified interests worldwide, is known for its focus on innovation and sustainability. Vasundhara is a rising star in the family business, having spearheaded initiatives for environmental sustainability and business growth within PRO Industries. Her dedication to sustainability and her leadership skills have earned her recognition within the industry.

The family is known for their luxurious lifestyle, recently making headlines for purchasing one of the most expensive homes in the world, Villa Vari in Switzerland.

The situation surrounding Vasundhara Oswal’s detention continues to unfold, with her family and legal team calling for transparency and a swift resolution to this alarming case.
