**New York City** – Victoria’s Secret has made history by featuring transgender models Valentina Sampaio and Alex Consani in its annual fashion show. This marks the first time the iconic lingerie brand has included transgender women in its runway lineup.
Sampaio, a 27-year-old Brazilian model, expressed her gratitude to Victoria’s Secret for making her “long-held dream come true.” “Inclusivity is crucial to the world we’re building,” she said, adding that she hopes to inspire future generations.
Consani, a 21-year-old California native, gained popularity on TikTok during the pandemic and has since walked in shows for several designer brands. She expressed her excitement about representing her community and feeling confident, values she believes Victoria’s Secret embodies.
The show, which streamed on Amazon Live and Amazon Video, also included iconic “angels” such as Gigi and Bella Hadid, Adriana Lima, and Tyra Banks, as well as a performance by Cher.
This year’s show comes after years of criticism directed at the lingerie brand for its lack of diversity. Former chief marketing officer Ed Razek’s 2018 comments about excluding “transsexuals” from the show led to widespread backlash and the cancellation of the show in 2019.
The inclusion of Sampaio and Consani signifies a significant shift towards inclusivity for Victoria’s Secret, marking a new chapter for the brand after its six-year hiatus.
