Wed Oct 16 18:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Black Style Takes Center Stage at the 2025 Met Gala

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced the theme for the 2025 Met Gala: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The star-studded event, held annually on the first Monday in May, will celebrate the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition of the same name.

The exhibition, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity,” will explore the evolution of Black men’s style through the lens of dandyism, spanning from the 18th century to present day.

“Dandyism,” according to Miller, “is a strategy and a tool to rethink identity, to reimagine the self in a different context. To really push a boundary—especially during the time of enslavement—to really push a boundary on who and what counts as human, even.”

The exhibition will showcase garments, paintings, photographs, and more, illustrating how Black men have transformed from being seen as objects of luxury to global trendsetters.

The 2025 Met Gala will be co-chaired by Colman Domingo, F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James serving as honorary chair. The dress code will be announced early next year.

Previous Met Galas have seen notable fashion moments from attendees like Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Zendaya, and Kim Kardashian. With “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” as the theme for 2025, fashion enthusiasts are already eagerly awaiting the red carpet spectacle.
