Wed Oct 16 22:42:12 UTC 2024: ## Ashwin Praises Test Cricket’s Adaptability Ahead of New Zealand Series

**Bengaluru, Oct 15:** Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has lauded Test cricket as the pinnacle of the sport, highlighting its unique ability to demand adaptability and innovation from players. In a video released by the BCCI, Ashwin, who recently claimed Player of the Series honours in the clean sweep against Bangladesh, spoke about the ever-evolving nature of Test cricket, emphasizing the need for players to adapt to changing conditions and develop new strategies.

“Test cricket is always about adaptability,” Ashwin stated in the video. “You can’t start Day 5 like how you started Day 1. Every day you need to be able to adapt to the conditions. That’s why they say Test cricket is the pinnacle of this particular sport.”

Ashwin, with an impressive 527 Test wickets to his name, will be back in action as India prepares to face New Zealand in a two-match series, starting on Wednesday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The series marks New Zealand’s return to India since their 2021 tour, where the hosts secured a 1-0 victory. The second Test in Wankhede saw Kiwi spinner Ajaz Patel etch his name in the history books by claiming all 10 wickets in an innings, joining a select group of bowlers including Jim Laker and India’s Anil Kumble.

With India currently topping the World Test Championships (WTC) standings and New Zealand in sixth place, the upcoming series holds significant importance for both teams. India will be aiming to strengthen their position in the WTC standings ahead of their crucial tour of Australia, scheduled for November-January.
