**Chennai, October 17, 2024:** Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai today lauded the state government’s proactive approach in handling the recent spell of heavy rains in Chennai and surrounding districts.

In a statement, Selvaperunthagai acknowledged the accurate predictions of heavy rainfall by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and praised the efforts of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, his cabinet, and government officials in taking timely precautionary measures.

He highlighted the efficient coordination between the Public Works Department, Revenue Department, and Greater Chennai Corporation in ensuring a quick return to normalcy after the rain stopped. Selvaperunthagai attributed the lack of widespread flooding to the government’s long-term vision, which included the completion of stormwater drains in many areas.

The TNCC president also lauded the swift response of Corporation workers, police, and fire and rescue personnel in draining stagnant water and restoring traffic flow in underpasses. He further commended the government for conducting medical camps to assist residents.

Selvaperunthagai concluded by stating that the government’s commendable efforts in handling the heavy rain situation had even silenced criticism from the opposition.
