Thu Oct 17 14:03:49 UTC 2024: ## Train Collision in Minya Leaves One Dead, 20 Injured

**Minya, Egypt:** A train collision near the village of Maqousa in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Minya on Sunday resulted in one fatality and 20 injuries. The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population reported that 19 of the injured have since been discharged from Minya General Hospital after recovering from their injuries, while the remaining patients continue to receive treatment.

The collision caused two train carriages to derail and fall into the Ibrahimiya Canal. The Egyptian Railways Authority has suspended train traffic on the Upper Egypt line until the accident site is cleared.

Rescue teams immediately responded to the scene, with 23 ambulances dispatched by the Ministry of Health. Injuries sustained by passengers ranged from bruises and abrasions to external wounds.

The incident follows the recent inauguration of the Upper Egypt Railway Station by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, intended to serve as a new transportation hub for the region.

Despite ongoing government efforts to modernize the railway network, train accidents remain a recurring issue in Egypt. In September 2023, a collision in Zagazig resulted in three fatalities and 49 injuries, while another collision in Qalyub City Station in March 2023 claimed the lives of four and injured 23.
