**East Rutherford, NJ** – Former New York Jets offensive tackle Mekhi Becton, now with the Philadelphia Eagles, has had some harsh words for MetLife Stadium, the shared home of the Giants and Jets. Becton, who played for the Jets for four seasons, has been vocal about his dislike for the stadium’s artificial turf, calling it “bad” and a “night and day difference” compared to other surfaces.
“I don’t wanna play in that s–tty stadium,” Becton told CBS ahead of his return to MetLife Stadium for Week 7’s game against the Giants. “It’s bad. Everything is just bad about that stadium. I don’t really like it.”
Becton isn’t alone in his criticism of the turf. Jets receiver Garrett Wilson also labeled the surface “garbage” despite a recent switch to a new synthetic turf. Both teams’ owners have discussed the logistical difficulties of transitioning to natural grass due to the cold weather conditions.
While Becton has suffered various injuries throughout his career, he says that he never sustained a major injury on the MetLife Stadium turf during his time with the Jets. He believes the artificial surface is simply inferior to natural grass, adding, “I just don’t understand why if you have an outdoor stadium, why not just have grass. Just for anybody. It just don’t make sense to me.”
Becton also expressed his belief that the Jets are overshadowed by the Giants, calling them the “little brothers.” The Eagles tackle, who was drafted 11th overall by the Jets in 2020, hinted at feeling mistreated by the team despite showing glimpses of potential early in his career.
Despite the harsh criticism, Becton has been a key contributor for the Eagles this season, starting all five games for the NFC East leaders.
