Thu Oct 17 15:23:28 UTC 2024: ## Israeli Cabinet Ministers Believe Hamas Leader Sinwar Likely Dead
**Gaza City, October 17** – Israeli cabinet ministers have been informed that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is very likely dead, according to reports from two Israeli broadcasters, Kan and Channel 12.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed they are investigating the possibility of Sinwar’s death, following a military operation in Gaza on Wednesday. During the operation, three Hamas militants were killed, and the IDF is examining if Sinwar was among them.
A Channel 12 report suggests that IDF troops initially opened fire on a group of militants on the ground floor of a building. Upon entering the building, they noticed a deceased terrorist resembling Sinwar, prompting the investigation.
DNA testing is currently underway to confirm the identity of the deceased.
While the IDF claims to have been unaware of Sinwar’s presence in the building, the death of the Hamas leader would be a significant blow to the organization and could potentially ease pressure on Israel to end the ongoing military campaign in Gaza.
Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant posted a cryptic message on social media, quoting Leviticus 26, “You will pursue your enemies and they will fall before you by the sword.” He added, “Our enemies cannot hide. We will pursue and eliminate them.”
Yahya Sinwar, born in 1962, is considered a prominent and uncompromising figure within Hamas. He was repeatedly arrested by Israel for his anti-occupation activism in the 1980s and spent 23 years in prison. He was released in 2011 as part of a prisoner exchange deal.
The death of Sinwar, if confirmed, would mark a major development in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
