Wed Oct 16 19:23:05 UTC 2024: ## Indian-Swiss Businesswoman Imprisoned in Uganda, Family Claims “Corporate Jealousy”
**Kampala, Uganda:** Vasundhara Oswal, executive director of Pro Industries and daughter of Indian-origin Swiss businessman Pankaj Oswal, has been imprisoned in Uganda under what her family claims are “fabricated charges” stemming from “corporate and political manipulation.”
According to Pankaj Oswal, Vasundhara was illegally detained for over 90 hours and held under “inhumane conditions” without access to legal counsel or family. He alleges that the charges were concocted by a former employee who had stolen valuables and money from the company.
Oswal has filed an urgent appeal with the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, citing the alleged degrading interrogation methods and lack of evidence against his daughter.
Vasundhara’s sister also took to social media, claiming that the 26-year-old was being held hostage by the Ugandan police force due to “corporate jealousy” from a former colleague who couldn’t accept her success.
The family asserts that Vasundhara’s arrest was a result of a power struggle within Pro Industries, and that the Ugandan authorities have been manipulated by the individual who orchestrated the false accusations.
The Oswal family is calling for Vasundhara’s immediate release and are seeking international intervention to ensure a fair and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her detention.
