Indianapolis was recently graced by the presence of Hollywood icon Tom Hanks, who made a surprise visit to two Northside bookstores. Hanks, along with his daughter E.A. Hanks, a writer, stopped by Semantics Paper Goods and Dream Palace Books & Coffee on September 28th.
Semantics owner Alexandria Dugan was initially unaware of Hanks’ identity, noting he “kind of looks like Tom Hanks. He kind of sounds like Tom Hanks.” It wasn’t until a week later, after a photo surfaced online, that Dugan realized she’d been in the presence of a celebrity.
Dream Palace owner Taylor Lewandowski shared that Hanks had requested the photo not be posted for a week. He confirmed that Hanks, after visiting Semantics, popped into Dream Palace and engaged in conversation with customers and staff.
While Hanks didn’t make a purchase at Dream Palace, he did buy a variety of items from Semantics, including notebooks, letter writing paper, and pens. He and his daughter were “pretty efficient shoppers,” according to Dugan.
The reason for Hanks’ visit to Indianapolis remains unknown, but Lewandowski hopes that E.A. Hanks will return to Dream Palace to promote her upcoming book “The 10,” scheduled for release in 2025.
