A viral video circulating on social media platforms like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) falsely claims to show astronaut Sunita Williams returning to Earth after a 127-day mission. The video, which actually depicts Williams giving a tour of the International Space Station, has been circulating since at least 2012.
The video, featuring a watermark from Unilad Adventure, was published on their Facebook page in May 2019. It showcases Williams, who was the then Commander of the International Space Station, explaining how astronauts eat, sleep, exercise, and even use the bathroom in space.
While Williams is currently in space, she is not scheduled to return until February 2025. A SpaceX Dragon capsule has been launched to bring Williams and fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore back to Earth during that time.
This misinformation, fueled by the video’s misleading context, underscores the importance of verifying information online. While the video is engaging, it’s crucial to remember that its content is not reflective of current events.
