Wed Oct 16 19:06:27 UTC 2024: ## Diwali Bonanza: Central Government Announces 3% DA Hike for Employees

**New Delhi:** In a festive gesture ahead of Diwali, the Narendra Modi government has announced a 3% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees. This increase brings the total DA to 53%, effective from July 1, 2024.

This is the second DA hike in 2024, with the previous one of 4% implemented on March 24, 2024. The latest increase will see the DA rise from 50% to 53%, leading to a substantial boost in the salaries of central government employees.

**Salary Impact:** For an employee with a basic salary of Rs 55,200, the DA increase will translate into an additional Rs 1,656 per month. The hike will also result in a three-month arrears for July, August, and September, to be paid along with October’s salary, further boosting their Diwali earnings.

**MSP Hike for Rabi Crops:** In addition to the DA hike, the cabinet has approved an increase in Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Rabi crops, making it a double Diwali gift for farmers. The MSP for wheat has been increased by Rs 150 per quintal to Rs 2,425, while the MSP for mustard has been raised by Rs 300 to Rs 5,950 per quintal. The MSP for chickpeas has also been increased by Rs 210 per quintal, bringing it to Rs 5,650.

**Impact on Domestic Economy:** The DA hike and MSP increase are significant steps towards addressing the impact of inflation on household budgets and agricultural incomes. These measures are expected to boost consumer spending and contribute to overall economic growth.
