Thu Oct 17 05:59:09 UTC 2024: ## Rain Stops Play in India vs New Zealand Test

**Bengaluru, October 17 (IANS):** Persistent rain forced a halt to day two of the first Test match between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru. The match, which was already hampered by rain on day one, will resume at 11:05 am on Thursday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

New Zealand took a commanding lead in the first innings, reducing India to 13/3 in 12.4 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first under overcast skies.

India made two changes from the side that defeated Bangladesh earlier this month, with Sarfaraz Khan replacing Shubman Gill and Kuldeep Yadav replacing Akash Deep.

New Zealand’s pace bowlers exploited the favorable conditions, troubling the Indian batters with swing and seam. While Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to survive despite facing multiple challenges, the same couldn’t be said for the other Indian batsmen.

Captain Rohit Sharma, far from his usual fluent self, was eventually dismissed by Tim Southee for a meager score. Virat Kohli, promoted to number three, was dismissed for a duck by William O’Rourke, who got extra bounce on a delivery that Kohli looked to defend.

Sarfaraz Khan, attempting to counterattack, was caught by Devon Conway off Matt Henry. Rain then brought a premature end to the day’s play.

**Brief Scores: India 13/3 in 12.4 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal eight not out; William O’Rourke 1-0) against New Zealand**
