**Kottayam:** Rumors are swirling about former Wayanad MLA E.S. Bijimol being the LDF candidate in the upcoming elections. However, Bijimol has told Manorama Online that she cannot confirm her candidacy at this time.
“The CPI State Council meeting is yet to be held, and a decision on the candidate hasn’t been made,” she said. Bijimol also addressed questions about whether her potential candidacy in Wayanad is similar to the situation in Idukki, stating, “If Ani Raja can contest from Delhi, why can’t I contest from Idukki?”
When questioned about facing Priyanka Gandhi in the elections, Bijimol responded, “My opponent is not Priyanka Gandhi. It is the party that matters.”
Asked if she would contest if the party directs her to, she said, “I can’t say for sure. This is the Communist Party.”
Bijimol confirmed that she has not been approached by the party leadership regarding the candidacy.
This development follows reports that the Wayanad district leadership has put forward Bijimol’s name as a potential candidate. The CPI is expected to announce its candidate for Wayanad tomorrow.
