Thu Oct 17 11:03:45 UTC 2024: ## New Jammu & Kashmir CM Umar Abdullah Bans Use of ‘Green Corridor’ for his Convoys

**Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir:** In a significant move aimed at easing the burden on the public, newly appointed Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Umar Abdullah, has prohibited the use of “green corridors” or traffic disruptions for his official convoys.

Abdullah, who took oath as the first Chief Minister of the union territory since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019, instructed the Director General of Police to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the general public while he travels by road.

“I’ve spoken to the J&K DGP that no ‘green corridors’ or traffic disruptions for public should be made when I’m traveling by road. I’ve directed them to ensure minimal inconvenience to people & use of sirens,” Abdullah wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

He further emphasized that his cabinet colleagues should follow the same protocol. “There should be complete avoidance of any kind of lathi charge or aggressive posture. Our conduct in everything should be people-friendly. We are here to serve the people, not to inconvenience them,” he stated.

This move has been widely welcomed by the public, who have often faced disruptions and inconvenience due to official convoys in the past.
