**Aligarh, October 16:** Celebrated filmmaker and writer Muzaffar Ali will be the chief guest at Aligarh Muslim University’s (AMU) 207th birth anniversary celebrations of its founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, on October 17th.
Ali will arrive at the Gulistan-e-Sayyad, the venue of the event, in a Victorian-era horse-drawn carriage. He will be accompanied by AMU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Naima Khatoon. The Riding Club members will welcome the chief guest.
Other distinguished guests include Snehlata Srivastava, retired IAS and former Secretary, Ministry of Law and Justice and Secretary General, Lok Sabha, Jaya Verma Sinha, retired IRTS, former Chairman of the Railway Board, and Ajay Chaudhary, IPS, Special Commissioner of Traffic, Delhi Police, and author.
During the ceremony, Ali will present the International and National Sir Syed Excellence Awards to Professor Francis W. Pritchett and the Ghalib Institute, New Delhi, respectively. The winners of the All-India Essay Writing Competition, organized by the Public Relations Office on the theme “Connecting Communities: Sir Syed’s Efforts to Promote Religious Harmony in India,” will also be awarded.
Past Sir Syed Day events have been graced by renowned personalities like lyricist Javed Akhtar, Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, actor Naseeruddin Shah, and several other prominent figures from various fields.
The rehearsals for the event will be held on Tuesday, ensuring all arrangements follow protocol. The celebration promises to be a grand affair, with the chief guest’s arrival in a historic carriage adding to the grandeur of the occasion.
