**Bahraich:** Two accused in the murder of Ram Gopal Mishra, who was killed during a communal clash in Bahraich, have been injured in an encounter with police on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Rinku alias Sarfraz Khan and Mohammad Taleem, were trying to escape to Nepal when the encounter took place near the Nepal border, 20 km away from Nanpara.

Both the accused suffered bullet injuries in their legs and are currently undergoing treatment at Bahraich Medical College. According to police, the accused were carrying a double-barrel gun and a pistol, which were recovered from the encounter site.

While being taken from the encounter spot, Sarfraz pleaded for mercy, stating, “Sir, it was a mistake, please forgive me.”

The incident occurred when the STF and Bahraich police were trying to apprehend Sarfraz and Taleem, who were allegedly involved in the murder of Ram Gopal Mishra on October 13th.

The encounter took place near the Handa Basehri canal in the Nanpara Kotwali area. During the operation, the accused allegedly fired at the police, prompting a retaliatory response.

Earlier this week, police had arrested Sarfraz’s brother Faheem, father Abdul Hamid, and Mohammad Afzal in connection with the case.

The communal clash erupted in the Maharajganj Bazaar area of Bahraich on October 13th during a Durga idol procession. A dispute over a DJ being played during the procession led to violence, resulting in Ram Gopal Mishra’s death. The incident was followed by several hours of rioting, arson, and widespread violence, leaving over 50 houses and businesses damaged.

The police have registered 11 FIRs in relation to the violence and have arrested over 50 people.
