Thu Oct 17 14:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Israeli Military Claims to Have Killed Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza

**Gaza City, Palestine** – The Israeli military has claimed to have killed Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas’ political bureau, during a military operation in the southern Gaza Strip. The claim remains unconfirmed pending DNA testing, but Israeli officials have stated they believe one of the three bodies recovered during the operation belongs to Sinwar.

The Israeli military stated that the encounter with Sinwar took place in the Tel Sultan area of Rafah. Sinwar was reportedly wearing a military vest and accompanied by another senior Hamas official.

According to Israeli media, the operation was a chance encounter and was not based on prior intelligence. Israeli forces targeted a building where Sinwar and other Hamas fighters were present.

While the Israeli military and the Shin Bet internal security agency have not officially confirmed Sinwar’s death, they are examining the possibility. They have stated that they are investigating the identities of the three bodies recovered during the operation, and that no Israeli hostages were present in the building.

Hamas has not yet commented on the Israeli claims.

Sinwar, a former prisoner of Israel, was considered by Israel to be the mastermind behind the “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” which began on October 7, 2023. The operation resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 Israeli soldiers and civilians.
