Wed Oct 16 16:10:15 UTC 2024: ## France Renews Commitment to Fight Food Insecurity on World Food Day
**Paris, France** – On World Food Day, the French government reaffirmed its commitment to combatting all forms of food insecurity and malnutrition. This comes as the number of people experiencing high levels of food insecurity rose to 281.6 million in 2023, an increase of 24 million from the previous year.
The alarming figures also highlight the impact on children: 150 million under five years old are suffering from stunted growth, and 37 million are underweight.
France recognizes the devastating consequences of malnutrition on health, education, and economies worldwide. The country is actively involved in the fight, hosting the Nutrition for Growth (N4G) summit in Paris on March 27 and 28, 2025. This summit will bring together global leaders from governments, organizations, civil society, businesses, and scientific communities to collaborate on concrete and ambitious strategies to address all forms of malnutrition.
France is also deeply concerned about the worsening food crises in conflict zones, particularly in Gaza and Sudan. The country remains committed to providing financial support to international organizations and food aid projects in these regions.
Furthermore, France is the leading funder of the Grain from Ukraine program, launched in 2022 to address the global food insecurity caused by the Russian invasion. The program provides crucial food assistance to seven countries: Somalia, Yemen, Sudan, Palestine, Djibouti, Malawi, and Zambia.
France’s renewed commitment to the fight against food insecurity demonstrates its dedication to global food security and its commitment to working collaboratively with international partners to create a world free from hunger and malnutrition.
