Wed Oct 16 02:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Varun Dhawan’s Action Dream: From Aditya Chopra’s Rebuff to Citadel’s Big Budget
Actor Varun Dhawan has revealed that he was once turned down by producer Aditya Chopra for an action film role, citing the need for a substantial budget to justify the genre. Dhawan, who is now leading the India chapter of the global spy series “Citadel” with “Citadel: Honey Bunny,” shared this anecdote during the trailer launch of the Amazon Prime Video show.
Chopra, who was then producing “Tiger 3,” explained to Dhawan that he wasn’t yet at a point in his career to warrant the large budget required for an action film. This revelation sparked Dhawan’s determination to ensure “Honey Bunny” had the necessary funding. He even enquired about the budget with Chopra before approaching the creators of the series, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK.
Dhawan expressed gratitude to Amazon and Raj & DK for providing the platform and resources to create a visually impressive action spectacle. He also acknowledged the opportunities he has received from South Indian filmmakers, particularly in the action genre, hoping it will inspire Bollywood to offer him similar roles.
“Citadel: Honey Bunny,” set in the 90s, features a thrilling mix of romance and action. The Hindi series, also starring Kay Kay Menon, Saqib Saleem, and Sikander Kher, premieres on November 7 on Prime Video.
