**MINNEAPOLIS, MN -** The Minnesota Vikings are bringing back running back Cam Akers, acquiring him in a trade with the Houston Texans. The deal also includes a swap of conditional draft picks, with the Texans sending a 2026 seventh-round pick to Minnesota in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
This marks the second consecutive year the Vikings have traded for Akers. Last year, they acquired him from the Los Angeles Rams in a similar trade involving the same draft picks. Akers played six games for the Vikings before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury, ultimately signing with the Texans as a free agent this offseason.
Despite a strong start to the season, the Vikings have been hampered by injuries at running back. Star back Aaron Jones sustained a hip injury in Week Five, though he is expected to return for this week’s matchup against the Detroit Lions. The Vikings’ current roster includes Ty Chandler and Myles Gaskin as the only other running backs.
Akers, who has 40 carries for 147 yards and a touchdown this season, will be looking to contribute immediately for the Vikings, providing depth and experience to the running back room. His familiarity with the team and offensive scheme could make him a valuable asset as the Vikings seek to make a playoff push.
