**New Delhi, October 16, 2024:** Banks in Bengaluru, Guwahati, and Shimla will remain closed on Wednesday, October 17, 2024, due to the observance of Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti and Kati Bihu. While banks in other cities will remain operational, several states have declared a public holiday for the occasion.
Schools, colleges, and government offices in these states will also be closed. Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh are among the states observing the holiday.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has categorized bank holidays into three types: holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts. These holidays may vary from state to state, reflecting India’s diverse cultural landscape.
In addition to the designated holidays, banks across India are also closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, and every Sunday, as per RBI guidelines.
