**New Delhi:** A UK-based associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, Rohit Godara, has been identified as the mastermind behind a plot to target stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui, according to central intelligence agencies. The revelation came during the investigation of the murder of an Afghan gym owner, Nadir Shah, in September.
Police arrested 10 individuals connected to the murder and discovered Bishnoi’s involvement. During questioning, one of the suspects, who was recruited by Godara, revealed information about a recce of a hotel in New Friends Colony. While the target was initially unknown, intelligence agencies alerted Delhi Police that a Muslim comedian was on Bishnoi’s hit list.
Upon checking the hotel guest list, police found Faruqui’s name. The comedian was in Delhi for a cricket tournament, and police promptly informed him about the threat. Faruqui subsequently traveled to Mumbai under police protection.
The suspect, who was arrested in a separate case in Haryana, claimed Godara instructed him to eliminate Faruqui. He, along with his accomplice who is still at large, conducted surveillance in both Mumbai and Delhi.
The investigation highlights the reach of organized crime groups and their willingness to target high-profile individuals. Delhi Police are continuing their investigation and working to apprehend the remaining suspects.
