Vienna, Austria (October 14, 2024) – Austrian authorities have identified a 20-year-old Swiss national as a suspect in connection with a series of bomb threats targeting train stations, schools, and shopping centers across the country.
Since September 30th, 27 anonymous bomb threats have been sent via email, forcing evacuations and temporary shutdowns of train stations. The first five threats alone affected around 450 trains and thousands of passengers, according to Austrian Federal Railways (OeBB).
The interior ministry has issued a European arrest warrant for the suspect, who is currently in Switzerland. The warrant has been sent to Swiss authorities for review and enforcement.
