**New Delhi, India** – The National Security Guard (NSG), popularly known as the ‘Black Cats’, celebrated its 40th Raising Day on October 16th, 2024. The elite counter-terrorism force was established in the wake of the 1984 Operation Blue Star, which aimed to flush out Sikh militants from the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Established under the National Security Guard Act of 1986, the NSG is a federal contingency force under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is headquartered in Manesar, Haryana, and has six regional headquarters across India.

The NSG is a highly trained special force specializing in a wide range of counter-terrorist operations, including hostage rescue, counter-hijacking, and bomb disposal. Equipped with cutting-edge weaponry and technology, the NSG plays a crucial role in preventing terrorist attacks and deterring potential threats.

The NSG has been heavily involved in numerous high-profile operations, including the 2002 Akshardham temple attack in Gujarat and the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. One of their most memorable missions, Operation Black Tornado (2008), saw NSG commandos coordinate with other agencies to storm the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Oberoi Trident Hotel, and Nariman House during the Mumbai attacks.

The NSG’s 40th Raising Day serves as a reminder of their unwavering commitment to protecting India’s national security and safeguarding its citizens from terrorism.
