Tue Oct 15 20:10:51 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly Elections Scheduled for November 2024

**New Delhi:** The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the dates for the Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections, which will be held in November 2024.

**Maharashtra:** The state will witness a single-phase election on **November 20th**.

**Jharkhand:** The state will have two-phase elections, on **November 13th** and **November 20th**.

**Counting of Votes:** The results for both states will be declared simultaneously on **November 23rd**.

This Maharashtra election will be particularly interesting due to the split within the Shiv Sena and the NCP, leading to two separate alliances vying for power. The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance comprises Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction and Sharad Pawar’s NCP, while the Mahayuti alliance consists of the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP.

The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance currently holds a majority in the Maharashtra Assembly with 218 seats, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi holds 77 seats.

In Jharkhand, the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance currently governs the state under Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

The ECI has assured that strict measures will be taken to ensure fair and transparent elections in both states.
