Wed Oct 16 13:45:08 UTC 2024: ## Kerala Government Reverses Sabarimala Spot Booking Decision After Backlash

**Pathanamthitta, Kerala:** In a major U-turn, the Kerala government has reversed its decision to scrap spot bookings for the upcoming Sabarimala pilgrimage season. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced the change following a review meeting on Tuesday, citing strong opposition from Hindu organizations and concerns from devotees.

The initial decision, announced last week, mandated online booking for all pilgrims with a daily limit of 80,000 devotees. This move was aimed at controlling crowds, but faced significant backlash, particularly from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Hindu organizations who threatened legal action.

The government acknowledged that many devotees, especially those from other states, rely on spot booking as they might not have access to the virtual queue system. To accommodate these devotees, the government will now provide a facility for them to have darshan at the temple even without prior booking.

The government also announced plans to strengthen the virtual queue system, aiming to improve its accessibility and functionality. This decision is expected to ease tensions and allow for a smoother pilgrimage season for devotees.
