Wed Oct 16 09:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Pakistan Reach 358/8 at Lunch, England Take Three Wickets

**Multan:** England clawed back some ground in the second day of the first Test against Pakistan, picking up three wickets in the first session. However, a strong lower-order fightback from the hosts saw them reach 358/8 at lunch, with Pakistan scoring 99 runs in the 27 overs bowled during the session.

England started the day with optimism, losing a review early on when Matthew Potts trapped Mohammad Rizwan on the pad. However, Rizwan responded with a boundary before falling to Brydon Carse, who found the edge of his bat.

Agha Salman, who had been slow to get going, then shifted gears and began hitting boundaries with gusto. He found a willing partner in Aamer Jamal, as the seventh-wicket pair built a steady partnership.

Salman guided two Matthew Potts deliveries to the third man fence, taking Pakistan past the 300-run mark. However, Potts had the last laugh, getting Salman to edge to the keeper, ending a 38-run stand.

Soon after the drinks interval, Sajid Khan fell to Jack Leach, chipping a drive to cover. But Jamal and Noman Ali then launched a counter-attack, putting together a crucial 49-run partnership to power Pakistan past 350. Both batsmen remained unbeaten at lunch, having struck a combined nine boundaries.

England will be looking to make further inroads into the Pakistan batting line-up in the afternoon session.
