Wed Oct 16 03:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Rain Delays Start of India vs New Zealand First Test in Bengaluru

**Bengaluru, India** – The highly anticipated first Test match between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru was delayed due to heavy rain on Monday, October 16th. The toss was also postponed as the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium remains under cover. Former cricketer Saba Karim commented that the rain is currently heavy and the toss is expected to take place around 45 minutes after it stops.

This series marks the 13th encounter between the two teams, with India aiming for their 11th series victory against New Zealand in a bilateral Test series. New Zealand, on the other hand, are yet to claim a win against India on Indian soil.

The Kiwis have a history of struggling in India. Their first tour in 1955 resulted in a 2-0 defeat, and subsequent tours in 1965 and 1969 saw them win only one test in India.

Over the years, India has dominated the rivalry, winning 10 out of 12 series and boasting an impressive record of 17 wins in 36 Test matches played in India.

The last series between the two sides took place in November 2021, with India winning 1-0 in a two-match series.

The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, features key players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and R Ashwin. The New Zealand squad, captained by Tom Latham, includes experienced players like Kane Williamson and Tim Southee.

The series will continue with the second Test in Pune on October 24th, followed by the final Test in Mumbai on November 1st.
