Tue Oct 15 18:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Germany Qualifies for Nations League Quarter-Finals Under New Format

**Berlin, Germany** – Germany has secured its place in the quarter-final round of the UEFA Nations League following a change in format for the 2024/25 season.

The Nations League, established in 2018, aimed to replace friendlies with competitive fixtures between European nations of similar strength.

This year’s format sees the top two teams from each of the four groups in Leagues A, B, and C advance to the quarter-finals, where a group winner will face a runner-up from another group. The winners of these two-legged ties will progress to the Nations League Finals.

Previously, only the four group winners in League A reached the knockout stages.

Germany, despite their impressive international pedigree, has yet to reach the Nations League Finals. They have finished third in their group in 2018/19, 2022/23 and second in 2020/21.

The Nations League also serves as a secondary qualification pathway for the European Championship, with the top team in each group eligible for the play-offs if they haven’t already secured qualification through the primary qualifying route.

The league phase of the tournament will be played over the international breaks in September, October, and November. The knockout phase will commence in March, leading up to the Finals in June.

Germany will be aiming to make their mark in the new format and finally reach the Finals. Their performance will be closely watched as they seek to build momentum ahead of the next European Championship in 2028.
