**New Delhi:** The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Tuesday the dates for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Voting in Maharashtra will take place on **November 20th**, with results declared on **November 23rd**. Jharkhand will hold its election in two phases, on **November 13th** and **November 20th**, with results also announced on **November 23rd**.

The announcement comes after the recent assembly polls in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, where the BJP secured a historic victory in Haryana and the National Conference-Congress alliance won in Jammu & Kashmir.

**Maharashtra:** The election is expected to be a tight race between the ruling Mahayuti Alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena-Eknath Shinde, and NCP-Ajit Pawar, and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, consisting of the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP – Sharad Pawar, and the Congress. The state has 288 seats.

**Jharkhand:** The ruling JMM-Congress alliance faces off against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) comprised of the BJP, Janata Dal (United), and the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU). The state has 81 seats.

The ECI stated that the elections will be conducted fairly and transparently, with the aim of ensuring free and fair participation of all voters. The commission also announced that by-elections for 48 assembly constituencies and two Lok Sabha seats will be held simultaneously with the assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

Political parties have already begun their campaigns, with both sides expressing confidence in their ability to win. The upcoming elections are expected to be closely watched, as they will be the first major electoral test for the BJP in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
