Tue Oct 15 20:44:50 UTC 2024: ## AFCON Qualifiers: Salah and Mbeumo Shine as Comoros Pull Off Stunning Upset
**Cairo, Yaounde, Rades (AFP) -** Mohamed Salah and Bryan Mbeumo led their respective nations to victory in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, while Comoros pulled off a major upset, defeating Tunisia 1-0 in Rades on Friday.
Egyptian star Salah scored twice, helping the Pharaohs maintain their perfect record with a 2-0 win over Mauritania in Group C. Cameroon, meanwhile, cruised past Kenya 4-1, with Mbeumo netting one goal and Vincent Aboubakar, Martin Hongla, and Christian Bassogog contributing the others.
The biggest shock of the day came in Tunisia, where Comoros, a tiny island nation, ended the Carthage Eagles’ 16-game home winning streak in AFCON qualifiers. Rafiki Said’s goal in the second half secured the victory, putting Comoros second in Group A, just one point behind Tunisia.
The match was a massive upset, as Tunisia are ranked 5th in Africa and 82 places above Comoros in the FIFA rankings. The Comorans, who have a history of pulling off upsets, will host Tunisia in their next match in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Other notable results included a record-equalling 5-goal haul for South Africa and a late win for Nigeria.
The AFCON 2025 qualifiers continue with matchday 4 fixtures taking place throughout the week.
