Wed Oct 16 01:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Chennai Rain Threat Eases: Weatherman Predicts Reduced Rainfall
**Chennai, India:** Relief has washed over Chennai residents as Tamil Nadu weatherman Pradeep John has announced a gradual decrease in heavy rainfall. The recent intense downpours, caused by a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal, have begun to subside.
Over the past few days, Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu experienced torrential rains, with Chennai recording a staggering 300 cm rainfall in the last 24 hours. The highest rainfall was recorded in Sholavaram, Thiruvallur district, at 30 cm. As a precautionary measure, residents in low-lying areas of Chennai, Kancheepuram, and Thiruvallur were moved to government relief camps, while others sought shelter with relatives.
While the Chennai Meteorological Department had previously predicted heavy rainfall for the next three days, Pradeep John has assured residents that the low-pressure system is shifting northwards, sparing Chennai from the brunt of the intense rainfall. He has stated that the city can expect only light to moderate rain in the coming days.
The news has brought a sigh of relief to residents, who had been grappling with heavy rainfall and its aftermath. The city’s infrastructure has been severely impacted, with flooded roads and waterlogging in various areas. However, the decline in rainfall is expected to ease the situation and allow authorities to focus on repair and restoration efforts.
The Tamil Nadu government has been actively responding to the situation, providing relief and assistance to affected individuals. Educational institutions in Chennai, Kancheepuram, and Thiruvallur have been closed as a precautionary measure. Similarly, schools in Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai, and Villupuram districts have been closed as well. Train services have also been disrupted, with the cancellation of the Chennai-Tirupati passenger train, the Sabthagiri Express, and the Erode-Chennai Yercaud Express.
As the rain subsides, the focus will now shift towards recovery and rehabilitation efforts. The government and concerned authorities are expected to implement measures to minimize damage and restore normalcy in affected areas.
