Wed Oct 16 11:03:08 UTC 2024: ## Government Announces Increased MSP for Rabi Crops

**New Delhi, October 16, 2024:** The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a significant hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for key rabi crops, as announced by Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The move aims to ensure farmers receive a fair price for their produce and safeguard them against market fluctuations.

The MSP for wheat has been increased by Rs 150 per quintal, moving from Rs 2,275 to Rs 2,425. Mustard sees an increase of Rs 300, reaching Rs 5,950 per quintal, while chana has been raised by Rs 210 to Rs 5,650 per quintal.

Further, the MSP for barley has been set at Rs 1,980 per quintal, masoor at Rs 6,700 per quintal, and safflower at Rs 5,940 per quintal.

The MSP, a government-backed price guarantee, is a crucial tool for supporting farmers and stabilizing agricultural markets. It provides a safety net, especially when market prices fall below the set minimum, preventing financial distress for the farming community.
