Wed Oct 16 08:16:45 UTC 2024: ## Rain Drenches India-New Zealand Test in Bengaluru, Play Delayed

**Bengaluru, India:** The highly anticipated first Test match between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru got off to a soggy start as relentless rain forced a complete washout of the morning session. Despite hopes for a break in the weather, a steady drizzle continues to fall over the Chinnaswamy Stadium, keeping the covers firmly in place.

While the rain has reportedly stopped, the umpires are yet to inspect the pitch and decide on the toss. The SubAir drainage system is expected to expedite play once the rain subsides.

Meanwhile, the Black Caps have been dealt a blow with the news that Ben Sears, initially named in the squad, has been ruled out of the series due to a torn meniscus. Jacob Duffy has replaced him.

The rain, however, is not the only concern for the Black Caps. They have been plagued by rain-affected matches recently, with their Test against Afghanistan in Greater Noida abandoned without a single ball bowled. The current situation in Bengaluru raises concerns that this Test could follow a similar fate.

Former India seamer Dodda Ganesh, however, remains optimistic about the Chinnaswamy’s drainage system and believes play can commence quickly once the rain stops.

The forecast for the remainder of the day predicts the rain will cease around 3 pm, although the cloud cover is expected to persist. This leaves the umpires with a tough decision – whether to wait for clearer weather or proceed with the toss.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the start of play, hoping for a chance to see India, fresh off their recent victories against Bangladesh, take on a determined New Zealand side looking to make their mark on Indian soil.
