Tue Oct 15 18:02:57 UTC 2024: ## Sri Lanka Level Series With Dominant Spin Bowling Display
**Dambulla, Sri Lanka:** Sri Lanka bounced back in style from their first T20I loss, securing a convincing 73-run victory over the West Indies in the second match, played in Dambulla. This victory levels the series at 1-1, setting up a thrilling decider for the final T20I.
The Sri Lankan spin attack, led by debutant Dunith Wellalage, proved to be the difference-maker. Wellalage’s impressive spell, claiming 3 wickets for 9 runs, completely disrupted the West Indies batting order. He was ably supported by fellow spinners Maheesh Theekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Charith Asalanka, who each took two wickets.
The visitors were left struggling at 39 for 6, failing to adapt to the challenging spin-friendly pitch. Only Matheesha Pathirana, the lone seamer to take a wicket, provided some resistance for Sri Lanka.
Earlier, Sri Lanka had laid a solid foundation with a respectable 163/5. Pathum Nissanka’s 54 off 49 balls was a key contribution, with Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, and Kamindu Mendis also playing their part.
“It is an important win for us. It was a good toss to win. We were thinking 160-170 would be a par score and the openers set the platform,” said Captain Charith Asalanka, highlighting the significance of the win.
He added, “He (Wellalage) has experience playing 50-over cricket and didn’t look like a debutant. Hopefully we win the series.”
With the series tied, the final T20I promises a thrilling encounter as both teams look to claim victory.
